King Cake Baby Starry, Cornelia, & Pride Seedlings!
It's officially Mardi Gras Season!! And that means King Cakes! A king cake is a like a cinnamon roll in the shape of a giant flat donut. And the BEST part of a king cake is not even the cake!! It's what's hidden inside—a small plastic or porcelain baby.
Whoever gets the baby in their slice of king cake is said to have extra luck all year long. They also get to host and/or bring king cake for the next Mardi Gras party. We're not partying this year in the traditional sense for safety's sake, but we are still excited to celebrate the season and find a bit of luck.
Each King Cake Baby Starry is made of glazed clay and is the size of a traditional king cake baby (teeny tiny; about 2cm tall). They are nontoxic, but we recommend keeping them as keepsakes and we say please don't hide them in a cake!! It is too dangerous and too many cracked teeth!! If you want a traditional Mardi Gras ritual, we recommend what some New Orleanians have been doing for years, which is to hide an almond in the cake and then whoever gets the almond can also have the baby.
If you've ever been to New Orleans and are missing The Big Easy, King Cake Baby Starry is a great reminder of the joy of NOLA. And if you haven't been yet, Baby Starry will bring a bit of authentic NOLA charm to you! Each baby is handmade and comes with a Star(ry) Baker recipe card that doubles as a postcard.
